Choose a plan and buy credit

Work on capacity that devboxes manages is paid from your plan's included usage and your prepaid credit. Plans and billing lists the prices and limits. Work on your own Runners needs neither, up to 3 Runs at once; Runs beyond those 3 take Runner slots that are paid the same way.

Owners and admins subscribe, change the plan, and buy credit. Only owners open the customer portal.

Check your plan and credit

plan.name is free, basic, or premium. plan.included shows this month's included usage and how much of it is used. prepaidEur is your credit, and lots lists your purchases with their expiry.

Subscribe to Basic or Premium

Use "plan": "premium" for Premium and "interval": "year" to pay yearly. Open the url from the result, accept the Terms of service, and pay on the Stripe page before expiresAt. A newer page replaces an older one that you haven't paid. After you pay, Stripe returns you to the devboxes web app, which applies the payment, and billing.inspect shows the plan in plan.name.

If your Organization already has a paid plan, the command fails with SUBSCRIPTION_EXISTS. Change the plan instead.

Buy prepaid credit

To do it yourself:

amountEur is one of the packs: 10, 25, 50 or 100. To buy a different amount, write to [email protected]. Open the url from the result, accept the Terms of service, and pay. The credit appears in billing.inspect once Stripe confirms the payment, and lasts 12 months.

If the amount is above what your plan lets you buy now, the command fails with TOP_UP_LIMIT. To have your limit raised, write to [email protected].

Change your plan

In the devboxes dashboard, open Settings > Billing. To pay once a year, turn on Pay yearly. Then choose Change to Basic or Change to Premium. The confirmation says what Stripe bills. Choose Change plan.

Stripe charges the price difference for the rest of the period right away, with your saved payment method, and the new plan applies once that is paid. The result says "changed": true. If Stripe can't charge it, the command fails with PLAN_CHANGE_UNPAID and the plan stays as it was: update the payment method in the customer portal, then run the command again.

Cap your extra usage

On a paid plan, work beyond the plan's included usage is billed as extra usage, up to a monthly cap. Plans and billing lists the caps. An owner lowers the cap, or raises it again up to the plan's cap.

In the devboxes dashboard, open Settings > Billing. Under Spending limit, enter the euros in Monthly limit and choose Save. To go back to the plan's cap, choose Use the full €100, which names your plan's cap.

From the CLI:

The limit is in whole euros. "spendingLimitEur": null goes back to the plan's cap. More than the plan's cap fails with SPENDING_LIMIT_ABOVE_CEILING. To have the cap raised, write to [email protected].

Cancel your plan or update the payment method

Owners open the Stripe customer portal:

Open the url from the result. In the portal, you update the payment method, read invoices, or cancel. A cancelled plan stays until the end of the paid period; billing.inspect shows when it ends in plan.subscription.cancelAt.

Get a refund

Write to [email protected] before you dispute a payment with your bank. Support has the other ways to reach devboxes. A dispute takes back all of the credit that is left from that purchase while it is open. Refunds and disputes lists what a refund changes.
