devboxes

Connect Discord

Turn on Chat first. An owner or admin of the Organization connects the server, and the person who approves devboxes in Discord needs the Manage Server permission there.

To do it yourself:

An owner or admin can also open Integrations > Discord in devboxes and choose Add to Discord instead of steps 1 and 2.

  1. Start the installation:

    organization.json
    { "organizationId": "<organization id>" }
    devboxes invoke chat.connect-discord --input @organization.json
  2. Open the authorizationUrl from the result within 15 minutes, choose your server, and approve devboxes. The browser then returns to the Discord page under Integrations in devboxes, which says whether devboxes was added.

  3. Copy the ID of the channel devboxes works in: in Discord, turn on User Settings > Advanced > Developer Mode, then right-click the channel and choose Copy Channel ID.

  4. Assign the channel to Projects with that ID as channelId.

  5. Mention @devboxes in the channel.

devboxes answers a mention in a thread that it opens on the message, so it needs the Create Public Threads and Send Messages in Threads permissions in the channel. Everyone who can post in that thread continues the conversation there. devboxes does not take work in direct messages: it answers a direct message with where to ask. In ambient mode, devboxes answers every message a person writes in an assigned channel, each in its own thread.

chat.disconnect also removes devboxes from the server. If Discord refuses, the result's warning says so, and a server administrator removes devboxes in Discord: right-click devboxes in the member list and choose Kick.
