Set up Personas and memory

Personas and memory explains what they are.

Create a default Persona

A Persona gives devboxes a name and instructions for how to answer in Chat. devboxes answers without one. A conversation uses its channel's assigned Persona, otherwise the Organization's default Persona. Owners and admins manage Personas.

Add to Organization memory

Every member can add, replace and erase entries. In Chat, devboxes changes Organization memory only from a thread in a channel that everyone in your Slack workspace or Discord server can read, so the people there see the change. Who can act in a connected channel lists where it refuses.

Store your preferences

An owner or admin turns preferences on for the Organization with people.configure-policy.

You can also tell devboxes your preferences in a direct message in Chat, change them there, or ask it to forget one. The Chat policy does not need to allow this. Your preferences hold at most 1,200 characters in total. devboxes applies them when it answers you in any thread you wrote in, so the people there can notice their effect, and it quotes them only to you, in your direct message. When you first write in a thread devboxes is answering, your preferences apply from that message on. A preference you add, change or forget takes effect from devboxes' next reply. Only you can list them, with people.preferences or by asking devboxes in your direct message.

Do not store sensitive personal information.

Correct how devboxes answers

Tell devboxes in a channel thread how it should answer from now on. When you say it holds for everyone, devboxes saves it to Organization memory and says so, and every later answer in every conversation follows it. A correction meant only for the thread stays in the thread. You can list, replace and erase what it saved with the memory operations.

Deactivate a Persona

personas.deactivate stops a Persona from shaping how devboxes answers. It no longer appears in personas.list, is no longer the default, and no longer shapes how devboxes answers in the channels it was assigned to. Its conversations keep their messages and their history, including replies the Persona shaped. Their next reply uses the channel's assigned Persona or the Organization's default Persona, or no Persona when neither exists. A deactivated Persona cannot be turned back on.

The Personas and memory operations cover the rest, for example replacing an entry or correcting a preference.
